Minister Zizi Kodwa to attend Ndevana Legends Cup Tournament on Heritage Day

Legends Holdings (Pty) Ltd in colaboration with Ngqushwa FM, Lokishi VW Club and local bussinesses around Qonce are set to host the Legends Cup 2021 Soccer and Netball tournament at Ndevana Village, Qonce tomorrow, Friday, 24 September 2021. The tournament is deliberatley set to take place on Heritage Day to commemorate the existence of the 45 years old village which was established in 1976, outside King Williams Town, now known as Qonce. Ndevana was established as a result of forced removal of people from various farm areas, who were under the former Ciskei regime in the 70's. In honer of the event, State Security Minister in the Presidency, Zizi Kodwa and her deligation is exptected to grace the event with her presence.

Speaking about the purpose of the event and its link to heritage day, Chairperson of Legends Holdings (Pty) Ltd, Dr T. Mlamla,said; "We acknowledge that the local knowledge and heritage that has been passed on orally from generation to generation is a vital part of a nation's heritage.In South Africa, indigenous knowledge has massive potential for research, development, innovation and social cohesion." "The main aim of this tournament is development and unearthing untapped talent, in an attempt to guide our young people's emotional and mental state through sport. This innitiative also seeks to celebrate our heritage as the community of Ndevana along with people in and around our village and neighbouring villages," said Dr Mlamla.
Every year, on the 24 September, South Africans celebrate their diverse cultural heritage in various ways. Heritage Day is a holiday which recognises the cultural wealth of the nation and on the day, various events are staged throughout the country to commemorate the day. What will take place in Ndevana Village tomorrow promices to enlighten todays generation, particularly the youth about their roots. According to Dr Mlamla, It takes a village to raise a child;"...We can either influence or help them form or choose this village or we can leave them to their vices. We believe that every young person is a germ with potential that is waiting to be unleashed," Dr Mlamla added.
A handover of Netball and soccer kit as well as golden cups and medals will be handedover to the players by Legends Holdings partners and Minister Zizi Kodwa tomorrow as well. Mdantsane Mall Pick n' Pay and Yiliwe Funeral Supplies are some of the sponsores who offered to support the event to ensure that the expected audience of over 400 people and players will be catered for. The tournament will take place tomorrow, Friday, 24 September 2021, at Wonderful Attackers Sports Groud, Ndevana Village, eQonce from 09h00 till 17h00, the theme is Casual wear with a touch of native attire.
The Eastern Cape Department of Health will have vaccination stalls available at the event, for those who wish to be registered for Covid-19 vaccination, you will be welcomed to do so, remember to have your South African Identity Document (ID) handy. For those who wish to recieve their second vaccine jab, you are advised to bring your ID and your proof of Vaccination code. All Covid-19 safety measures shall be observed. No mask, no entry.
